Inside © Jeffrey Altergott

You show me your wall of despair
You drop me a ladder made from your hair
But, I don't want to go, baby, anywhere I can't see the light
And I don't want to stand, baby, between you and the demons you fight You're looking for a savior and I can't be that guy
Maybe you should look on the inside
You're crying tears you don't explain
Attached to emotions you can't even name
You're not the only one, baby, chasing down the sun
Maybe it's time to plant your feet and take a stand
The sun will come around another day
You'll be right there to stake your claim
And everything will be allright
When you start looking on the inside
When you start looking on the inside
When you break down that wall of despair
Dust will clear and I'll be standing there
A friend never really goes away
Even if there's nothing he can say to right all you've been wronged
That will be the day, baby, we'll all hear the fat lady sing a happy song Because, we'll all see what's on the inside
We'll all see what's on the inside
We'll all see what's on the inside

Balloons © Jeffrey Altergott

Some days I'm the Red Balloon
Flying high and feeling cool
Other days I'm tethered by my fears
I close my eyes and search myself
Inventory my internal shelves for
Something better than I've ever made appear
To make me proud
I want to know how to make me proud
I want to smile again, trust myself and be a friend
I can't go down like this
I can't go down like this
I built myself a little place
Somewhere I could feel safe
But had I made a shelter or a tomb
Maybe if I can embrace
The things about myself I hate
It would be less a coffin and more a womb
To make me proud
I want to know how to make me proud
I want to smile again, trust myself and be a friend
I can't go down like this
How come it's always ever-more
When will we allow ourselves to soar
I won't go down that way
I won't go down at all
I wish I were that little boy
Floating off so full of joy
Oh to have been rescued by balloons

Till Tomorrow Comes © Jeffrey Altergott

Gray dawn
Creeps across my lawn
Into my window
Where does time go?
Hey diddle, diddle
Put me in the middle
Of your joy
And of your sorrow
Hold me till tomorrow comes and then
Hold me again
Brush of footsteps
Stranger out crept
Door close, I know
Another lover gone
Hey diddle, diddle
Put me in the middle
Of your joy
And of your sorrow
Hold me til tomorrow comes and then
Hold me again
Leaves turn, I learn
Fall to the ground
Simple dreams we’ll Rake up by the handful

Every Day is a Reason © Jeffrey Altergott

Alarm goes off 6:45
You hit the snooze and hold me from behind
I’m half asleep, I’m half turned on
Six more minutes of me in your arms
It’s alright, it’s ok It doesn’t matter what they say
Sticks and stones may break our bones
We’re still a family anyway
It’s 8:00, you kiss me goodbye
I’m still half asleep and you’re saying
“It’s time to get up; it’s time to get in the shower
I will call you in a couple of hours
We both have work to do, but it’s nice to know I’m coming home to you.” It’s alright, it’s ok It doesn’t matter what they say
Sticks and stones may break our bones
We’re still a family anyway
He calls at 10AM each and every day
He’s just making sure that I arrived ok
It’s 5PM, I’m on my way home
I call him up and I ask him “What do you want for dinner?”
He says “Why don’t we go out on the town,
We’ll treat ourselves like we’re not put down”
Because every day is a reason, is a reason
Because every day is a reason, is a reason
It’s alright, it’s ok It doesn’t matter what they say
Sticks and stones may break our bones
We’re still a family anyway

Something Crazy © Jeffrey Altergott

This routine is getting old
Old and tired...it's time to stop
Take a breath, take a load-off
Figure out where I missed the turn-off
You can be new, you can transform
You can kill the outside
Show them a true picture of you
You can kill the outside
Have you ever woken up
On the wrong side of your luck
Find a penny, maybe three
Wish for all that ought-to-be
You can be new, you can transform
You can kill the outside
Show them a true picture of you
You can kill the outside
I just did something crazy
To see if I would show up to save me...
You can kill the outside
You can kill the outside
You know you want to
You know you want to

Don’t Prove Me Right © Jeffrey Altergott

Break my body, break my mind
I don’t expect you to be kind
Break my spirit, break my heart
I saw this coming from the start
Don’t prove me right
No, no, no
Don’t prove me right
No, no, no
It hurts to stay it hurts to go
I try not to let it show
It hurts to plan when plans fall through
I set myself up when I chose you
Don’t prove me right
No, no, no
Don’t prove me right
No, no, no
I’m not resigned to these mistakes
We’ve tempted fate but it’s not too late
It all comes down to what we need
I’m asking you to stand with me
I beat myself up, it’s what I know
Something I learned long ago
Beat my dreams into the ground
Buried so deep they can’t be found
Don’t prove me right
No, no, no
Don’t prove me right
No, no, no

Brothers Beautiful © Jeffrey Altergott

Brothers beautiful are we
Gathered here among the trees
Mothers children, blessed be
Brothers beautiful are we
I’m alive, I’m alive
I’m alive, I’m alive
Dancing here around the fire Filled with passion and desire
We’re alive, we’re alive
Sisters beautiful are we
Finding love in all we see
Father’s fire burns in me
Sisters beautiful are we
I’m alive, I’m alive
I’m alive, I’m alive
Dancing here around the fire
Filled with passion and desire
We’re alive, we’re alive
We’re alive, we're alive
I see your face I touch your skin
I lift it up and I crawl in
This is love without sin
This is love without sin
Spirits soaring are we
Open hearts will set us free

Kickstand © Jeffrey Altergott

I'm not ever going to break your heart
Take a ride with me through life
An angel told me I’d be a fool not to take good care of you
And momma didn’t raise no fool
I’ll by your kickstand, baby
Whenever I see you falling down
Everybody loves and everybody loses
Sometime in their life
That’s when it is that we learn what our heart truly desires
And baby my desire is you
I’ll by your kickstand, baby
Whenever I see you falling down
One day when we’re fireside, reminiscing
I’ll look into your eyes and I’ll say
“Oh, how I’ve loved life simply because you have loved me.”
Then I’ll kiss you, tenderly
I’ll by your kickstand, baby
Whenever I see you falling down
And I’ll by your kickstand, baby
Whenever I see you falling down

Dandelion © Jeffrey Altergott

Dandelion, wait and see
Your day is coming
Let it be
Banished and disgraced
With your sweet smelling face
Dandelion
Dandelion, it’s your sun too
Drink it in now
You’ve paid your dues
Have you been uprooted
Time after time Dandelion
Dandelion, don’t be sad
You’re the best friend, I ever had
I know that you feel unwanted
You know, we all feel a little haunted
But the wind is going to carry us away
From this place
Dandelion, you’re so brave
And you’re dying To be safe

Thank You © Jeffrey Altergott

I feel broken, I feel broken
My pieces are scattered, my pieces are scattered
You clean up my mess
You pick up each piece like it matters
And put me together again
You’re all of my horses; you’re all of my men
That’s when I knew
You see something special
Something special in me
You see special, special in me
I’m turned around dizzy, turned around dizzy
I’m losing my balance, I’m losing my balance
I fix my eyes, for a place that I recognize
It’s your form; it’s your face
Saving me from disgrace
That’s when I knew
You see something special
Something special in me
You see special, special in me
So, my love
How can I thank you, how can I thank you
How can I honor all that we’ve been through
If I sing you this song, if the world sings along
If I give you my life
And the warmth of my nights
Maybe you’ll know that it’s true
I see special, I see special in you
I see special, special in you
And I don’t feel broken
And I don’t feel dizzy…anymore

Dismal Voyeurs © Jeffrey Altergott

We've got the judge, we've got the jury and we've got cameras
We've got that justice seeking grandma
We can watch it all unfold on the TV screen
A family in crisis get a crew to the scene
Everybody empathize
Can't wait to sympathize
Don't forget to criticize, oh lord
What dismal voyeurs are we
What dismal voyeurs are we
Misery loves company
But you'll just have to not live this one without me
We've got reality, we've the hospital and the crime scene dramas
Could it be that we're addicted to trauma
It's all in the guide, every station's got some
Flip through the channels Back to back, no fun
But every show's a smash hit
We're all compelled to watch it
And most of them are pure… bridge
Drugged out models, fallen pop stars
Spoiled heiresses and messed up actors
Mr. Producer, I would rather see a tragedy...
"This has been a test of the emergency broadcast system."
Oh, lord…
What dismal voyeurs are we
What dismal voyeurs are we
Misery loves company
But you'll just have to not live this one without me
